CURTIS, Thomas Alfred, 95, of Hampton Bays, NY, on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at East End Hospice in Westhampton Beach, NY. Arrangements made by Scott Rothwell Funeral Home, 20 Ponquogue Ave, Hampton Bays, NY. Viewing Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, with military service at 7:30 pm. Interment at Calverton National Cemetery on Thursday, February 1, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Tom's name to the American Legion, 55 Ponquogue Ave, Hampton Bays, NY 11946.
A World War II veteran, Tom served in the Coast Guard. Trained as a radio operator (using Morse Code for radio communication on airplanes and ship-to-shore transmission), Tom was a Flight Radio Operator for TWA Airlines from 1948-1952 and 1954-1957, a ship to shore radio operator at WLC in Rogers City, Michigan from 1958 to 1962, and a ship to shore radio operator at WSL (Mackay Radio) in Southampton, NY from 1962-1983. He was a talented jazz pianist and played piano with numerous local jazz musicians and at a variety of local bars, restaurants, and clubs.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Curtis, 5 children (Linda Maines, Karen Curtis, Thomas Curtis, Gary Curtis, Gregg Curtis), 3 step-children (George Hoffman, Karen Hoffman, Carol Noon), 11 grandchildren (Josh Curtis, Travis Curtis, Evan Curtis, Hayley Bloom, Ty Curtis, Abigail Curtis, Conor Curtis, Joseph Camarota III, William Camarota, James Camarota, Stephen Camarota), 4 step-grandchildren (Amanda Hoffman, Corey Hoffman, Abigail Hoffman, Emily Noon), 3 great grandchildren (James Camarota Jr., Joseph Camarota IV, Nicholas Camarota), and 2 step-great grandchildren (Aidan Ervin, Christopher Ervin).
