Stefan J. Borell of Hampton Bays died peacefully on November 6. He was 84 years old. He was born on August 8, 1937, in the Bronx to Anna Getch and Stefan J. Borell Sr. both immigrants from Engelsbrunn, Romania. The family moved to Hampton Bays when he was 9 and he attended Hampton Bays School where he met his wife Barbara Lupia they were married on September 29, 1957.
He was the part-owner of Betty’s Mobil Service Station in Hampton Bays for many years, left the business and went on to work for Bangston’s Fuel Company, and retired from South Fork Appliance Repair Service in North Sea. After retirement, he and Barbara spent the winters in Arcadia Florida, and summers in Hampton Bays. They raised 2 children Elizabeth and Stefan and traveled to many states on family trips.
Steve was known as “Mr. Fix-it” there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t work on. He loved to travel in the motor home he and Barbara owned.
He was predeceased by his mother Anna, father Stefan, sister Frances Borell Baumgart, and husband Elwood Baumgart, nephew Elwood Charles Baumgart and son-in-law Frank T. Lindtvit; he is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Elizabeth Borell Lindtvit, son Stefan B. Borell, and his wife Susan, three grandchildren, Stefan A. Borell, and his wife Phuong, Alinda J. Borell and Kala Lindtvit Herrington, her husband John and nephew John Baumgart.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 from 3-5 & 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 10:30 AM at St. Rosalie's RC Church in Hampton Bays, NY. Interment will follow at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays, NY.
