Richard F. Nydegger “Rick” passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021. He was born in Manhattan on May 22, 1944 to Margaret and Frederick Nydegger.
Rick graduated from Archbishop Malloy high school then continued on St. John’s University for his undergraduate and CUNY for his masters.
During his younger years he spent time out in the Hamptons where he ended up meeting the love of his life Susan on a beach in Hampton Bays. Although only 15 and 16 back then, they knew it was meant to be. They were married for 56 years, and raised three children Rick, Laura and Brian.
They were further blessed by nine grandchildren, (Rick’s)Patrick, Frederick, Christian, Rieve and Lilah. (Laura’s) Alexander and Jonathan, (Brian’s) Landon and Maggie. And one great grandchild (Patrick and Kayla) Brayden.
Rick was truly known as a gentle and compassionate man with overwhelming kindness and generosity.
A long-term member of Saint Rosalie‘s church, worked with the Fresh-Air Fund and the Committee for Common Good. Over the years he sponsored 14 kids in different parts of the world for a better life and education.
Rick had tremendous passion for the water, he enjoyed fishing, hiking the beaches, and boating. Also had a huge compassion for animals. He very graciously shared these loves with his wife Susan, children and grandchildren.
They could’ve made a movie about Rick and Susan and their life together.
