Nancy Welden Obituary

Nancy Joan Welden, 1937-2022

Born in New York City, Nancy J. Welden passed peacefully due to various ailments on December 8, 2022.  For the last seven years of her life, she was cared for primarily by the dedicated staff of the Acadia Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Riverhead.

A graduate of Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY.  Ms. Welden moved to Riverhead in the early 1960s after marrying the late David J. Willmott, Sr.  Later divorced, she resided mainly in Port Jefferson, returning to Riverhead in the 1990s.

Ms. Welden was initially a teacher and helped Mr. Willmott start Suffolk Life Newspapers.  Later, with four children, she was primarily a housewife, but also found time to paint and take additional college classes.  In the early 1980s, she became a Grants Analyst for Suffolk County and she worked there for almost two decades.  An avid reader, she lived by herself until 2015.

Ms. Welden is survived by children David Willmott, Jr. and Melissa Willmott of Hampton Bays, Michael Willmott of East Quogue, and Jonathan Willmott of Alexandria, VA, and Millerton, NY, as well as grandchildren David, Shannon, Ryan, Madison, and Ava Willmott, Theresa and Brennan Willmott-McMahon, and Katelyn, Riley and Ella Stotzky, along with dear cousins, Ed Powers of Bronxville, NY, and Dan Welden of Sag Harbor, NY.

A wake will be held on Saturday, December 17th, from 1-4. at the Scott Rothwell Funeral Home, 20 Ponqougue Avenue, Hampton Bays, NY.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Association for Mental Health and Wellness ( http://mhaw.org).
