Marlene H Trafford : Obituary

            Marlene H. Trafford of Hampton Bays has passed away at the age of 87, as of Friday Morning, December 1st.  Born in Nanticoke Pennsylvania, but moved early on to St Albans, Queens, she met her husband (Lester J Trafford Jr.) while both of their parents worked in construction at Levittown Pennsylvania. Marlene’s father, Walter Grabowski introduced Marlene to the son of Lester Trafford Sr. of Hewlett NY, while both of their parents worked as inspectors during the construction of Levittown Pennsylvania.  They were married in Bucks County Pennsylvania on June 2, 1956. After the completion of Levittown they had their first son, Lester James Trafford 111.  Shortly thereafter moved to Hampton Bays NY where Lester’s father and her Husband started L. Trafford & Son Construction, which was to remain as their family company for most of their lives

            Marlene had four children, Lester Trafford III, Who owns  Seatow Moriches/ Shinnecock in Hampton Bays, and his daughter Janessa (currently living in 4 Oaks North Carolina) who also gave her the first great grandson and favorite person in the world, Griffen Trafford.  Her second child and only daughter, Joyce Hillendhal, of Hampton Bays, had 1 son, Daniel Murphy, who made a career in the USAF (currently living in North Las Vegas).  She had a second son Brian J. Trafford with two children, Jesse (US Army Infantry), currently living in Tucson Arizona who just gave birth to her second great grandchild Raiden Trafford with his wife Ashleigh. Aimee his daughter who is a world traveler and backpacker who resides in Portland, Oregon. Brian is married to Suzanne who did so much to take care of Marlene and his children. Her youngest son, Rodney Trafford, who still resides in Hampton Bays.

            Marlene worked in a variety of fields including bank teller at Hampton Bays National Bank, a house cleaner throughout all of her years, she worked as a bayman along with her son Lester, she ran a scallop opening shop out of her house when scalloping was big business, and with a staff of openers opened up to 120 bushels of scallops per night. She worked for Cor-J Seafood through many years as a seafood opener.  She worked in the dining room of Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.  She worked in a T-Shirt printing shop later in her life, and basically any job she could find to help support her family regardless of the work environment.

            Her other interests included being very involved in the Church of St. Mary’s in Hampton Bays along with her husband, Lester. She became a member of ABATE (a Motorcycle Rights Organization, started by her son) and helped start an annual toy/food run to this church and continued to orchestrate the annual event for over thirty years.

           In lieu of flowers, donations my be made in Marlene's Memory to the St. Mary's Episcopal Toy & Food Run, 165 Ponquogue Ave, Hampton Bays, NY. Check may be made payable to St. Mary's Church, in memo write "Toy Run".  Thank You.

            Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 6, from 2 -4 PM & 7-9 PM, with Firematic Services at 7:30 PM, at Scott-Rothwell Funeral Home, located at 20 Ponquogue Ave, Hampton Bays, NY. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 7, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Hampton Bays, NY.
