A Hampton Bays resident for 63 years, John and his late beloved wife, Marion, bought a small motel in 1959 and over the years, with the help of hardworking family, amazing staff and community support, built it into a treasured local landmark, the Hampton Maid
He passed away peacefully on Christmas Day in his home in the Shinnecock Hills surrounded by his loving family. Beloved father of Steven Poulakis, Leslie Bellows and Cristina Spindler. Cherished father-in-law to Sharon Poulakis, Mike Spindler and predeceased by his son in law Clark Bellows. Grandfather to Jess, Josh, Luke, Jillian, Tara and Seth and great grandfather to Maizie, Ella, Ryder, Cash, Lexie, and twins Robbie and Rylie.
John came into the restaurant business at a young age, working at the Mayflower Tea Room on Grand Avenue in Baldwin owned by his parents Gus and Jane Poulakis.
John was a veteran of WW2 serving in the Army Air Corps as a waistgunner on B-24 aircraft and in lieu of flowers the family would ask that a donation be made to the VFW 2021 end of year fundraiser
He will be missed terribly and remembered always.
