John H. Downs Sr.

John H. Downs Sr., 76 passed peacefully from COVID 19 on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Brookside Nursing Home in Smithtown. He was born in Southampton Hospital to Viola & Frank Downs Sr. and was one of nineteen children. He married Jacqueline C. Downs on September 25, 1962. He was a self-employed bayman and contractor. John loved living on the water and was an avid outdoors man. He lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline Downs, his brother Thomas Downs, his sisters Avis Walker, Edna Morrison, and Regina Polowski, his children John H. Downs Jr., Annette Knotoff Szczepanik and Brian W. Downs. John was blessed with six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A private wake will be held on Tuesday, April 28 at Scott-Rothwell Funeral Home located at 20 Ponquogue Avenue in Hampton Bays. A burial at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays, New York will follow the wake.
