David G. Van Scoy, Jr.

DAVID GEHRIG VAN SCOY, JR.

David Gehrig Van Scoy, Jr. of Hampton Bays died on February 23, 2023 after a long battle with COPD.  He was 66.

He was born on October 14, 1956 at Southampton Hospital to David G. Van Scoy, Sr. and Diane C. Van Scoy.  He had one brother, Gregg and one sister, Robin Harris, all of Hampton Bays.

After Graduating from Hampton Bays High School, David served 4 years (1975-1979) in the Navy Seabees (Construction Battalion).  Following his time in the Navy, David spent time driving tractor trailers, worked for Chesterfield Assoc. and retired after 24 years with the Southampton Town Highway Dept. as a heavy equipment operator.

In 2002 David married the love of his life, Phoebe (née Phoebe Davis Tuthill) Van Scoy.  They loved the beach, fishing, going on camping trips and spending time with family, friends and especially their granddaughter Morgan.

In his downtime, David enjoyed serving as a driver and EMT for the Hampton Bays Ambulance.  Earning multiple awards, Rookie of the Year and Driver of the Year, to name a few.

David was pre-deceased by his wife Phoebe, his daughter, Deanna Christine Pastore Van Scoy and his mother, Diane C. Van Scoy.  He is survived by his son, David, III, his father, David, Sr., brother, Gregg and sister, Robin Harris, Stepson, Keith Tuthill, daughter-in-law, Bobbie Sue Tuthill, granddaughter, Morgan Tuthill and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

David was a loving son, father, husband, brother, nephew, uncle and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and the Hampton Bays community.

Services were held on February 28 and March 1st at the Scott-Rothwell Funeral Home in Hampton Bays followed by interment at Good Ground Cemetery.
