Chester Francis Sinclair of Hampton Bays died on July 2, 2020 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 95. Mr. Sinclair will be remembered as a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather; honored WWII veteran; successful business owner of Quogue Sinclair Fuel and involved community member.
Born and raised in Hampton Bays, Chet was the youngest of 8 children. He served in WWII as a rifleman in the 357th Infantry Regiment of the 90th Division and fought in the Battle of Saint Lo, the Battle of the Bulge, the Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of Falaise Gap. He returned home to Hampton Bays a decorated veteran and Purple Heart recipient.
Chet then worked in the Hampton Bays School District as a bus driver and janitor, which gave him the opportunity to finish high school. He met his wife Charlotte through a friend, and they were married in 1948. Soon after, they welcomed son Mark and daughter Brenda. Chet founded CF Sinclair Fuel in 1954, which would eventually merge with Quogue Fuel in 1988 to become Quogue Sinclair Fuel. He remained a vital part of the business, continuing to go into the office at 95.
At the time of his passing, Chet was still active in the community. He was the longest standing member of the American Legion in Hampton Bays and a member of the Lions Club for over 45 years. Chet was a Master Mason in the Old Town Lodge in Southampton and was proud of the work these organizations did for local charities.
